Framework Laptop 13 Pro: A New Contender for Premium Notebooks

Technology

In the competitive world of premium notebooks, Framework’s latest offering, the Laptop 13 Pro, is making waves with its blend of customizability and high-end features. At a recent unveiling in San Francisco, the Laptop 13 Pro emerged as a formidable competitor to other high-end laptops, offering users the flexibility to choose between Windows 11 and Ubuntu Linux operating systems.

The Laptop 13 Pro retains the familiar dimensions of its predecessor, the Framework Laptop 13, ensuring compatibility with previous components while introducing enhancements. Its standout features include a robust aluminum casing, a vibrant touch screen, powerful speakers, and the option of a stylish black or silver finish.

The Pro model distinguishes itself by being the first from Framework to be crafted entirely from extruded blocks of 6063 aluminum, lending it a solid and premium feel. The improved design includes a reinforced base for the keyboard, minimizing movement and providing a stable user experience. Despite these enhancements, the laptop remains portable at just 3.1 pounds, with a brushed aluminum finish that adds to its aesthetic appeal.

Enhancing its multimedia capabilities, the Laptop 13 Pro boasts a Dolby Atmos speaker system capable of delivering clear audio in noisy environments, and it introduces touch-screen functionality, a long-requested feature from the Framework community. This addition works seamlessly with Windows 11, enhancing user interaction.

Performance-wise, the laptop impresses with its ability to run demanding software like Cyberpunk 2077 on medium settings, powered by Intel’s new Core Ultra X7 358H chip, achieving approximately 69 frames per second without the need for a discrete GPU.

Starting at $1,499, the Laptop 13 Pro offers an attractive proposition for those seeking a customizable and upgradeable laptop, particularly for Linux enthusiasts, as it is the first to be certified for Ubuntu. However, configurations with the prebuilt Intel Core Ultra X7 358H and 32GB RAM begin at $2,099, while AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 chip models range up to $3,099, depending on the specifications.
