Asus has announced significant updates to its premium Zenbook S14 and S16 ultrabooks for 2026, aiming to enhance performance and user experience in the competitive ultraportable market. These models are known for their compact and lightweight design, now featuring a series of under-the-hood improvements that include modern hardware, advanced cooling systems, larger batteries, and brighter OLED displays.
The Zenbook S14 and S16 are crafted with a CNC unibody chassis and a Ceraluminum lid, providing a premium feel and durability. Despite being slightly heavier than the A-series counterparts, both models remain lighter than some competitors, such as the MacBook Air.
Design adjustments for the 2026 models include a minimalist lid design with a dark-chromed Asus Zenbook logo and updated color options like Antrim Gray and Scandinavian White, which effectively hide smudges.
On the ergonomic front, both Zenbooks retain their practicality, offering ports along the edges and a limited display angle of 130 degrees, similar to that of MacBooks. The keyboards remain minimalist with low travel, and while audio quality is above average, especially in the larger S16 model, the lack of up-firing speakers persists.
Display-wise, the updated Samsung OLED panels are a highlight, offering increased brightness—500-nits in SDR and up to 1100-nits in HDR. This improvement addresses previous concerns about usability in brighter settings.
Under the hood, the Zenbook S14 features Panther Lake Core Ultra Series 3 H hardware, promising improved processing and GPU performance over its predecessors. Meanwhile, the Zenbook S16 is equipped with AMD’s Gorgon Point Ryzen AI 9 400 hardware, although the top-tier model may not be available immediately.
Both models benefit from updated thermal modules and larger batteries—77 Wh for the S14 and 83 Wh for the S16—paired with more efficient hardware, allowing for longer usage and better performance under load.
Despite these advancements, the Zenbook S14 and S16 maintain a premium price point, and some users may find the limited screen angle and shallow keyboard travel points of contention. Nevertheless, the enhancements in performance, display, and efficiency could attract buyers seeking high-end ultraportables.
Asus’s decision not to incorporate the Core Ultra 9 X platform with enhanced graphics is noteworthy, potentially affecting the appeal for users requiring higher GPU capabilities. However, these models remain a strong choice for those prioritizing size and performance in a stylish package.
